Crafting is not just about the act of crafting alone – honing fine motor skills, learning about art and creativity, but also about connection and bonding. Especially when as a parent you settle down to a craft session with your little ones! It isn’t about what you are making but about spending time together!
Here are some ideas to get you and your kids started!
Make some fun Party Poppers or “Confetti Cannons”
Let’s make a balloon-powered confetti cannon – a fun STEAM project for all the family to enjoy. Ok that sounds like a bit of a mouth full.. doesn’t it. Ha! But in essence A balloon-powered confetti cannon – is a super simple either Cardboard Tube Party Popper or a paper cup party popper. You can probably fill up the cardboard tube popper a little more and keep the contents hidden for a bit longer. It would b a fun way to add surprise to any family party. E.g. if you are helping prepare a gener reveal party, these could easily be turned it to a quirky gender party cannons ! So fun!
Make a Family Story Book
A story book is a fun way to start journaling together. You can make your own little arty journal or us a regular notebook for this activity.
Then… maybe once a week or every month, sit down and see what adventures you have been on together that month and write a little story. Maybe add some photos too. This doesn’t have to be laugh out loud stories or adventures far and wide. Simply journaling your trip to the park and what you saw is enough! Be sure to add some photos too!
Make NaturE Collages
Nature collages or nature art is always a fun way to enjoy time together, but also the great outdoors. There are many ways to enjoy making these. For example, we once had a lovely afternoon at the beach making “loose part” nature art over and over again. Or you can bring some of those nature finds home and integrate them into a bigger art project.
DISPLAY your Art Projects
Diplaying your kids’ is a wonderful way to validate their creations. It also gives you a way to manage all the “stuff” they create (yes we all know, that kids, especially young ones can be very prolific in their art work). So why not make some display and storage boxes in one?
This can have a two pronged approach to celebrating your art work – not only, is it wonderful for children to see their work displayed on their walls.. but you can also create the displays yourself! For example, how fun are these Cereal Box Box Frames? A great way to store art work AND display it!
I hope these simply ways shared today, will encourage you to get creative with your family! Enjoy.
