How to make your Egg Carton Critters with Preschool

The best thing about this super cute and fun craft for preschoolers, is that there is NO right or wrong way of making these adorable egg carton critters. Basically, you imagination is the limit! Want lots of googly eyes? Sure, add them! Want a spotty egg carton critter? Make it spotty.. you catch my drift! Simply have fun!!!

Step 1: Cut out your egg cups

This may be best be done by grown ups on behalf of toddlers and preschoolers. Start by carefully cutting out the individual egg cups from your egg carton. Make sure to trim away any excess bits of cardboard or rough edges.

Step 2: Paint your egg cup

Now it’s time to get creative! Paint your egg cups in whatever colors and designs you like. You can use acrylic paints but water based paints are best when working with younger children. Even watercolors for a softer look. Let your egg cups dry completely before moving on to the next step.

Step 3: Add details

Once your egg cups are dry, use markers or paint to add details like eyes, noses, mouths, and ears. You can also glue on googly eyes, pom-poms, or pipe cleaners for extra texture and personality. Go crazy and have fun!!

Step 4: Create limbs and tails

To make your egg carton critters look more like animals, you can use pipe cleaners or other materials to create legs, tails, and other appendages. Twist and shape the pipe cleaners into the desired shape, and then glue them onto your egg cups.

Step 5: Give your critters funny names

Now that your egg carton critters are complete, it’s time to give them each a funny name! Use your imagination and come up with names that suit their personalities and quirks. For example, you could have a blue bunny named “Binky,” a pink pig named “Percy,” or a green alligator named “Alfred.” This is a great way to engage your toddler and preschooler with their craft and will help promote imagination and language skills!

These egg carton critters make great decorations for your room, or you can use them as toys for imaginative play. You could even create a whole zoo or farm of critters for a fun and educational project.

So there you have it, a fun and easy craft project that you can do with just a few simple materials. We hope you enjoyed making your egg carton critters as much as we did.
